Punta Aderci
The reserve
The Reserve of Punta Aderci stretches north from the mouth of the river Sinello (on the border of Casalbordino) to the Punta della Lotta, situated to the south of the port of Vasto. It is the first coastal Reserve established in Abruzzo in order to combine the protection of the local wildlife with mass tourism. From the coastal strip to the hinterland, you can admire a predominantly agricultural area rich in olive groves, vineyards and graminaceous plants.
The most characteristic elements are the promontory of Punta Penna, with an altitude of 26 m above sea level, from where you can have a 360° view over the entire reserve. On clear days you can see the Conero Regional Park, the Gran Sasso, the Maiella Mountain and the Tremiti Islands. To the north there is the pebble beach of Mottagrossa and behind there are many pine forests. Looking down you can see the “trabocco” of the same name, while to the south there is the so-called “Spiaggia dei Libertini”, that you can reach from the port or from a staircase not far from the promontory. It is a protected marine area that preserves many species of plants.
